Project Healing Waters is Much More than a One-time Fishing Trip
As program administrators and volunteers, many of whom are fellow veterans ourselves, we fully believe that Fly Tying, Rod Building, Fly Casting and Fly Fishing have healing benefits that support the mind, body and soul.
We want to share our experience with you and guide you on a journey of healing and fellowship
that you won't soon forget.
Wow, where to begin...
I have always wanted to learn about FlyFishing, but I never had the time or opportunity to do so.
With PHWFF's help, I have had the opportunity to experience the outdoors as never before. The quality of the volunteers at PHWFF are amazing, the way they treat the veterans are second to none. The generosity of the people that are involved with PHWFF knows no bounds. I have to travel a little bit to get to the meetings and this allows me time to anticipate what’s going to be done at the meetings as well as on the ride back all of the fun and excitement that I had during the meetings. Being able to be involved with PHWFF has completely changed my outlook on life. From major things all the way down to just day-to-day living it gives me something to look forward too. I can’t wait to get the meetings and different fishing events, and see the different people whether they are the veterans or the volunteers to shake hands and get greeted with a big smile and then catch up on the past couple weeks. Project Healing Waters has been a life saver for me.
Project Healing Waters has given me the opportunity to learn new and exciting ways to experience the beauty of the outdoors. But, more importantly, it has introduced me to like-minded people and other veterans in my community and has encouraged me to get out of the house, get active, and have some fun.
Project Healing Waters' volunteers are amazing. In the time I was alone and getting treatment at the Shepherd Center they took me in as if I had been their friend for years. They taught me many things and showed me how good people can be.
